Our Story
At Saxon Skincare, every jar tells the story of a family, a farm, and a commitment to doing things the right way. We believe that skincare doesn’t need long lists of synthetic ingredients or complicated formulations. Nature has already provided many of the building blocks our skin recognises and needs.
Friedl and Lindie von Maltitz have been farming with beef cattle near Ficksburg in the Eastern Free State since 2000, on a farm that has been in the family since 1876. Today, Saxon Park is home to a registered Simmentaler stud and a commercial beef herd, where the focus has always been on producing exceptional-quality beef while caring for the land and the animals entrusted to them.
In South Africa, beef is too often traded as a commodity, where price outweighs quality and consistency. At Saxon Park, however, quality has never been negotiable.
Our cattle graze freely on diverse, nutrient-rich pastures, developing the natural marbling and flavour that can only come from time, careful management, and respect for nature. They are raised without growth hormones and without the routine use of unnecessary antibiotics. Every animal is single farm origin. Bred, born, and raised on Saxon Park; allowing complete traceability from pasture to plate.
Our aim is not only to produce outstanding beef today, but also to leave healthier soils, thriving ecosystems, and a stronger farming business for future generations.
From Farm to Skincare
The story of Saxon Skincare began unexpectedly in 2024.
After processing our own beef, one valuable by-product remained largely overlooked: the suet. Curious about its traditional uses, Lindie began researching rendered suet, known as tallow, and discovered its remarkable history as one of nature’s original skincare ingredients.
Initially sceptical, she rendered small batches of tallow and began experimenting with different balm formulations in her own kitchen. Unsure how her skin would respond, she cautiously started by applying the balm to her feet. The results were immediate and remarkable. Dry, cracked skin became noticeably softer and healthier within days.
Encouraged by these results, she refined the formulations further and eventually developed a facial balm. Family and friends soon began requesting their own jars, and before long, what had started as curiosity had grown into a passion for creating simple, effective skincare rooted in nature.
Crafted with Purpose
Today, every Saxon Skincare product is still handcrafted by Lindie in small batches.
Our tallow remains single farm origin, sourced exclusively from cattle raised on our own farm. This gives us complete control over the quality and traceability of our most important ingredient. Wherever possible, we also source our additional ingredients locally from trusted suppliers who share our commitment to quality, sustainability, and ethical production.
Every jar is carefully handmade with the same patience, integrity, and attention to detail that define everything we do on the farm.
